Frequently Asked Questions
Poker is a family of card games that requires skills, strategy and wagering to determine the winner. It also been considered as the world’s fastest growing mind sport. There are many variations of the game, though Texas Hold'em is the most popular. While each variation has its own set of rules, the basics of the game remain the same. 9stacks currently offers Texas Holdem and Pot Limit Omaha on the platform.

Texas hold 'em (also known as Texas holdem, hold 'em, and holdem) is a variation of the card game of poker. Two cards, known as hole cards, are dealt face down to each player, and then five community cards are dealt face up in three stages. The stages consist of a series of three cards ("the flop"), later an additional single card ("the turn" or "fourth street"), and a final card ("the river" or "fifth street"). Every player has to seek the best five card poker hand from any combination of the seven cards of the five community cards and their two hole cards. Players have betting options to check, call, raise, or fold. Rounds of betting take place before the flop is dealt and after each subsequent deal. The player who has the best hand and has not folded by the end of all betting rounds wins all of the money bet for the hand, known as the pot.

Pot-limit Omaha (shortened to PLO) is popular in Europe, online, and in high-stakes "mixed games" played in some American casinos. It is more often played high only, but can also be played high-low. Even more so than Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, PLO is a game of drawing, if you are drawing, to the nut hand.[8] Second best flushes and straights can be, and frequently are, beaten. Furthermore, because of the exponential growth of the pot size in pot-limit play, seeing one of these hands to the end can be very expensive and carry immense reverse implied odds. A poker tournament is a tournament where players compete by playing poker. It can feature as few as two players playing on a single table (called a "heads-up" tournament), and as many as tens of thousands of players playing on thousands of tables. The winner of the tournament is usually the person who has the largest stack accumulated by winning all the chips in the game The others are awarded places based on the time of their elimination. To facilitate this, in most tournaments, blinds rise over the duration of the tournament. To know how to play tournaments on 9stacks, click here
We have a variety of tournament formats- from 15 minute timed tourneys all throughout the day to larger tournaments.
Hand ranking or hand hierarchy is the list of the combination of cards in an ascending order .Please refer the link to know about the hand ranking.
Flop: The 'flop' refers to the action of dealing the first three face-up cards to the board
Turn: Turn is the fourth community card dealt on the table, after the third round of betting.
River: River is the fifth and final community card dealt on the table followed by the fourth round of betting and the showdown.
Ante is a bet that everyone in the game must make in order to stay at the table
When a player decides to straddle in Texas hold'em or any other poker game, they are putting in twice the big blind before the cards are dealt. Usually, it is the player to the left of the big blind who straddles. All players following must call or raise the amount of the straddle bet.
Blinds are forced bets posted by players to the left of the dealer button. This is maintained so that there is always some prize money in the pot to compete for in a hand. The small blind is placed by the player to the left of the dealer button and the big blind is then posted by the next player to the left. The ratio of bet sizing between the two will always be 1:2. For eg, if the SB is 100. The BB is 200.

Note that the hand is already over, its result doesn't change, but you will find out if you made a good fold or a bad one! You can stop wondering "If only I'd played, would I have won the hand???"
Yes, you have to tip the dealer 1 big blind to use this feature.

It is possible that your current browser isn't picking up your location accurately. A simple way to check this is to open google maps from your current browser, and click the 'my location' dot on the bottom right. If google maps isn’t showing you, your current location accurately then your current browser is not able to pick up your geo location. In such a case do try logging in from another browser (eg. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox) and you should be able to play without receiving this error message. If that doesn't work do refresh you geo-location. This can be done by closing all your browsers, turning off location services on your laptop/desktop and then switching it back on in a while.
